About Bertha Mae O'Brien, 83, passed away November 22, 2016 in Morehead, KY.
Born July 9, 1933, Bertha was the daughter of James Paul McDowell and Hazel (Pratt) McDowell. She grew up in Camp Creek Community, Lucasville, Ohio and attended Piketon High School. On July 3, 1956, she was united in marriage with Raymond O'Brien, her adoring husband of 59 years, who passed away in February 2016.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Carolyn O'Brien of Morehead, KY; granddaughters, Mary Wozniak (Luke) and Anne O'Brien, both of Charleston, SC. Also surviving are her brothers, Bill McDowell (Jean) of Sabina, OH, John McDowell (Paulette) and, Rufus McDowell (Vicki), of Lucasville, OH and Randy McDowell (Cathy), Jackson, OH; sisters, Mary Reaver (Eugene) of Enon, OH, and Carol Snively (Martin) of Piketon; sister-in-law, Linda McDowell of Lucasville; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

In addition to her parents and husband Raymond, Bertha was preceded in death by her brother, Larry McDowell.

Over the decades in her role as a pastor's wife, Bertha ministered to the congregations of Riverdale CCCU, Piketon, Ohio, Mt. Zion CCCU, Lucasville, Ohio, Oakhill CCCU, Oakhill, Ohio, Milldale CCCU, Portsmouth, Ohio and New Covenant CCCU, Waverly, Ohio. She always gave freely of her time, love and prayers.

Bertha will be lovingly remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, and a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Her family will also remember her homemade meals, delicious pies, vibrant quilts, inviting home and beautiful blooming gardens. Her door, like her heart, was always open.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, 27 November 2016 at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly Ohio with Rev. James McDowell, Officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour on Sunday.
