Charles H. Birkhimer, 40, Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad station agent at Nelsonville was killed at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday [21 Mar 1964] on Route 278, near Lake Hope as he was driving to his home here. His auto struck a bridge abuttment when he apparently dozed at the wheel. A native of Pike County, he was born Nov. 7, 1923, the son of Sherman and Gertrude Boldman Birkhimer. His mother, a resident of Hialeah, Fla., survives. Also surviving are his wife, the former Helen Hughes; five children, Charles Jr., Barbara, Sherman, Mark and Eugene, all at home; one brother, Clifton of Milford, and two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Fuller of Beaver and Mrs. Eva Lou Andrews of Hialeah. Mr. Birkhimer was a veteran of World War II and had served as C and O station agent at McArthur prior to transferring to Nelsonville. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Howe Co. Funeral Home in Piketon and burial will be in Mound Cemetery, there. Friends may call at the Wrightsel Funeral Home in McArthur Wednesday and at the Howe Co. Funeral Home after noon Thursday. |
