About | PIKETON: Floyd Ballis, Jr., 78, of West St., Piketon, Ohio, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born on June 16, 1934 in Barberton, Ohio to the late Floyd Ambrose Ballis and Claradene Callman Ballis Fraelich. He was united in marriage on July 23, 1955 to Jean Smith Ballis who survives; also surviving are a daughter, Annette Ballis of Piketon, and fiance', Jim Stevens of Laurelville, Ohio; two sons, Mark Ballis and wife, Lisa of Augusta, Georgia, Brian Ballis and wife, Brenda of Piketon; four grandchildren, Kelley and Charlie Miller of Augusta, Brock and Ashley Ballis of Augusta, Brenton Ballis and fiance', Chelsey Kessler of Kingston, Ohio, and Brooke Ballis of Piketon; three great granddaughters, Chelsey and Caroline Miller of Augusta, and Caibree Ballis of Kingston; one brother, Bob Ballis and wife, Jane of Canal Fulton, Ohio; two sisters, Priscilla Kettler and husband, Bob and Jeanette Smoot and husband, William both of Clinton, Ohio; he is also survived by his mother-in-law, Minnie Smith Scowden of Piketon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kem and Joyce Smith of Piketon, Ruth Ann Montgomery of Chillicothe, Robin and Mark Ramsey of Cincinnati; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jackie and Jerry Ballis; his beloved father-in-law, Woodrow Smith; and a brother-in-law, Don Montgomery. Mr. Ballis was a retired Test Mechanic from the Kenworth Truck Plant with 23 years of service, he was retired from the U.S. Army with 27 years of service and spent much of his time with the 1001st Armory Division in Chillicothe. He was the owner of the former Ballis Gulf Station in Waverly, a founding member of the Canal Church of Christ in Waverly, and served on the Pike County Fair Board for 45 years. He was an avid member of the Waverly Athletic Boosters Club, and was one of the original members of the Dogwood Festival as well as having served on the Jingle Bell Parade Committee. He also served on the District State Fair Board, was a member of the Pike County Convention and Visitor's Bureau, a former member of the Waverly Lions Club, a member of American Legion-Merritt Post #142 of Waverly and a Kentucky Colonel. Funeral services will be 11:30 A.M. Saturday at Botkin Funeral Home in Waverly with Johnny Beekman and Jason Ridgeway officiating. Burial will follow in the Mound Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio with Military Graveside services conducted by American Legion-Merritt Post #142 of Waverly. Friends may call on Friday from 5:00-8:00 P.M. and Saturday from 10:30 A.M.-11:30 A.M. at the funeral home.
