About | Pike County News-Watchman (Waverly, OH) - Wednesday, June 24, 2009 Hobert Earl Hopper, 81, of St. Rt. 772, Piketon, Ohio died Friday, June 19, 2009 at Pleasant Hill Manor, Piketon. He was born September 9, 1927 in Pike County, Ohio the son of the late Robert Earl and Millie Ellen (Spurgeon) Hopper. On May 29, 1945 he was united in marriage to Virginia (Dunn) Hopper who survives. Also surviving are two children, Johnie D. Hopper and wife Joyce of Piketon, and Brenda Jewell and husband Mike of Piketon, two grandchildren, Angela Downard and husband Dave of Canal Winchester, Ohio and Shane Hopper and wife Lori of Piketon, four great grandchildren, Danica and Jenna Downard and Emily and Coltan Hopper, two brothers, Preston Hopper and wife Betty of Tipp City, Ohio and Melvin Hopper and wife Seretha of Prescott Valley, Arizona, and three sisters, Naomi Skaggs of London, Ohio, Thelma Taylor and husband Joe of Dayton, Ohio and Wyvona Ward of Long Beach, California. In addition to his parents, Hobert was preceded in death by two brothers, George and David Hopper and two sisters, Mary Barch and Ruby Miller. Hobert was a 55 year member of Elm Grove Church of Christ, Piketon, and a retired Superintendent with Carpenters Union Local 126. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. June 23, 2009, at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly, Ohio with Darrell Pinkerton, Minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Union Cemetery, Waverly.
