Jim was born in Portsmouth, OH, and was the son of the late, Floyd and Emma (Steiner) Barker. He is survived by his wife, Verna (Van Dyke) Barker, two daughters Paula (Karl) Vandegriff of Moneta, VA; and Marrijane (Rick) Jones of Zanesville, OH; and a brother Paul (Betty) Barker, of Jasper, OH. He is survived by five grandchildren, Sarah Vandegriff of Roanoke, VA; Anna (Philip) Burkett of Gordonsville, VA; Micah Jones of Zanesville, OH, Jordan Jones of Columbus, OH and Colin Jones of Orlando, FL; one great-granddaughter, Jordan Waller and two great-grandsons, Vance Starkey and Levi Burkett. Two brothers, Richard and Ronald Barker, preceded him in death. Jim retired from NCR in 1984 and formed Jim Barker Business Systems. In his 43 years of sales, he touched the lives of many people in a positive way with his integrity and professionalism. He was a man of great faith and lived his life with the certainty of the hope that tomorrow brings. We are certain he would not want us to grieve his loss but to celebrate his life and the years he shared with his family and his customers. A graveside service will be held at the Mound Cemetery in Piketon, OH, Sunday, September 26 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, Jim's desire was for donations to be made to BrainSong, The Micah Jones Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping young women with traumatic brain injuries at 1100-H Brandywine Blvd., Zanesville, OH 43701-7303.
