Smith, age 64, of Grove City, Oh., a former Piketon, Ohio resident, died 9:46 a.m. Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Mount Carmel West Hospital in Columbus, Oh., following an extended illness. He was born July 28, 1940 in Duke, Oh., the son of the late Robie and Elsie Foster Smith. On November 22, 1969 he was united in marriage to Ruth Ann McComas Smith who survives. Also surviving are one son, Todd (Tami) Smith of Beaver, Oh.; one daughter, Sherry Gott of Piketon, Oh.; grandchildren, Dane Gott and Carlee Gott of Piketon, Oh. and Julia Dade Smith and Nabilia Suddle, both of Beaver, Oh.; one step-brother, Olaf (Helene) Dunn of Sabina, Oh.; two step-sisters, Helen (Don) Wilson of Peebles, Oh. and Jean (Bill) McDowell of Sabina, Oh.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister Alice Smith Martin. Jerry was retired from Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Oh. Funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday at BOTKIN FUNERAL HOME in Waverly, Oh. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Cotties Corner Cemetery, Piketon, Oh.
