About | A memorial service will be held at a later date for John Lucas Patterson, 80, of Granville, who passed away after a sudden brief illness on June 10, 2012, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. He was born January 26, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Harry Rief and Bertha (Stevens) Patterson. John was a graduate of Piketon High School and received a BA in Mechanical Engineering from OSU. He served in the Army/Air Force as a courier between Japan, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas Technical Center in Granville as a Project Engineer and also worked for ALCOA, The Elliott Company in Jeanette, PA, Systems Research Corporation in Beavercreek, OH, and Johns Manville Fiberglas. He met his wife of 54 years while he was a college student working a summer internship at Goodyear Atomic Corporation. He held multiple patents. He enjoyed working with metal and woodworking, and was a great friend, neighbor and mentor to everyone who was blessed to know him. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Faye (Rose) Patterson, whom he married on June 15, 1958; son, Paul Alan Patterson of Port Clinton, OH; daughter, Vicki (John) Morrison and beloved grandson, John Reagan Morison of Westerville, OH; daughter, Cathy R. (fiancé, Roger Tate) Ash of Vincent, OH; brother, Thomas R. Patterson of Wyoming, RI; nephew, Ted Patterson and niece, Janet Patterson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen S. Patterson and sister-in-law, Joan Patterson.
