| About | November 7, 1920 – June 20, 1961 * * World War II * John William Holt, aged 40, of Third Street in Waverly, Ohio died at 5:16 A.M. Tuesday, June 20, 1961, at Grant Hospital in Columbus where he had been a patient since June 9. He was born November 7, 1920, in Piketon, Ohio. He was the son of William R. and Jennie Stephenson Holt, both of whom were surviving at the time of his death. On December 1, 1946, he married the former Lillabelle Pfeifer who was also surviving at the time of his death. He was the father of two sons, John Michael and Keith Alan at home. John had one sister, Mrs. Hilda Lutz of Dayton, Ohio. John was a former local distributor for the Standard Oil Company of Ohio and more recently had served as superintendent of the Waverly Sewer Disposal Plant. Serving as a U.S. Air Force sergeant during World War II, he was with the 467th Bomber Group in England. He was awarded the Silver Star while overseas. He attended Piketon Schools where he graduated from high school in 1939. Services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 23 at the Waverly Methodist Church with the Reverend Donald Morgan officiating. Burial was in the Mound Cemetery at Piketon under the direction of the Botkin Funeral Home. Final Rites Here Friday For John Holt Prominent Pike Man Dies At 40 John W. Holt, 40, of 409 East Third Street, Waverly, died at 5:16 A. M. Tuesday in Grant Hospital, Columbus, where he had been a patient since June 9. A former local distributor for the Standard Oil Company of Ohio for a 12-year period, he more recently had been superintendent of the Waverly Sewer Disposal Plant for several years for the village of Waverly. Surviving during World War II with the U.S. 467th Bomber Group in England. Mr. Holt was awarded the Silver Star while overseas. Native of Pike County, he was born on November 7, 1920 in Piketon, the son of William R. and Jennie (Stephenson) Holt, both of whom survive and reside on Piketon, Rt. 1. On December 1, 1946, he was united in marriage to Lillabelle Pfeifer, of Waverly, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, John Michael and Keith Alan, at home, and a sister, Mrs. Hilda Lutz of Dayton. Mr. Holt attended the elementary schools in Piketon and graduated from Piketon High School in 1939. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 P.M. Friday at the Waverly Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery under the direction of the Botkin Funeral Home of Waverly. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 P.M.
