About | Lendon Ray Montgomery, 63, formerly of Waverly and Chillicothe, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, in New Port Richey, Florida, following an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Laura Hemphill Montgomery, and their son, Jackson, both of New Port Richey. Ray is also survived by a daughter Shelley (Michael) Chidester; two granddaughters, Ashley Montgomery and Abbagail Chidester; a stepdaughter, Debbie Osborn Yothers, of Chillicothe; brothers Don (Ruth Ann) Montgomery of Chillicothe, and Danny (Deanna) Montgomery of Waverly; sisters, Anna (Dale) Shackle and Janet Montgomery, both of Sarasota, Florida, and eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Alice Montgomery, and a brother, James. A graduate of Piketon High School (1958), Ray proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. During his tour of duty in Japan, he was President Eisenhower’s personal guard on the USS Saint Paul. He attended the University of Southern California while stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. After his military service, he owned and operated Interstate Driving School in Chillicothe. After leaving Ross County, he had a successful real estate career in South Carolina, and for the past 15 years, he was marketing director for senior living communities in Florida. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004 at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly, with Gary Pack, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery, Piketon, with graveside military services by American Legion Merritt Post 3142, Waverly.
