About | Leon VanDyke, 82, of Cambridge, died Thursday (April 28, 2011) at his home. He was born September 29, 1928 in Cedarville, son of the late Kemp VanDyke and Arissa (Boyd) VanDyke. Mr. VanDyke was an insurance agent for many years. He was a graduate of Piketon High School and a 1955 graduate of Muskingum College. Mr. VanDyke served as president of the Cambridge Airport Authority for twenty-two years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Sharlene VanDyke; a brother, Larry VanDyke; and a son-in-law, Michael Wachs. He is survived by his wife, Norma (Dunham) VanDyke, whom he married June 8, 1946; a son, Tim VanDyke of Akron; two daughters, Rebecca (& Lloyd) Carrol of Gallipolis and Nancy (& Keith) Embree of Cambridge; a brother, Jim VanDyke of Akron; six grandchildren, Kurt Wachs who is currently stationed at the Misawa AFB in Japan, Eric Wachs of Gallipolis, Brent Wachs of Gallipolis, Katha Wilcoxon of Gallipolis, Troy Embree of Westchester, and Kevin Embree of Columbus IN; eleven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Family and friends may call on Saturday (April 30, 2011) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Brown officiating.
