About | MOREHEAD – Mary Evelyn Cales Banks, age 71, of Lakeview Heights, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2010, at her home. Born January 25, 1939, in Morehead, Kentucky, she is the daughter of Dortha Hutchinson Cales of Clearfield, Kentucky, and Marvin Cales, who passed away June 15, 2005. Her husband, Bill Banks, preceded her in death on February 24, 1996. In addition to her mother, survivors include three daughters, Cheri Tucker of West Chester, Ohio, Col. Lora Tucker of Louisville, Kentucky, and Suzy Tucker Creighton and husband Todd of Akron, Pennsylvania; one son, Ronald Tucker, Jr., of Florence, Kentucky; and one grandson, Tucker Skye Creighton. Evelyn retired from St. Claire Medical Center in 1995 as Vice President for Administrative Services. She served in numerous capacities during her 26-year career at St. Claire and was instrumental in the initial development of the Human Resource and Compensation programs, Primary Care System, Home Health, and Quality Management. In addition to providing leadership in these programs, she was also influential in the establishment and implementation of risk management and computerization. Through the years she served as the Assistant Administrator for Ancillary and Administrative Services and for Primary Services as well as Executive Secretary to Sister Mary Joell, her mentor. In addition, since her initial employment in 1969, she served as Personnel Director. Evelyn’s leadership was also evident in many professional, community, and civic organizations. She was a past chairperson of the TENCO Private Industry Council and served on its Executive Committee. She was an active member of the Regional Coalition for Home Service to the Elderly, Appalachian Displaced Homemakers Program, American Management Association, Kentucky State Job Training Coordination Council, American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, and member and director of the American Society for Hospital Personnel Administration. She was also a former City Commissioner at Lakeview Heights. Evelyn’s desire for learning and making a difference was evident throughout her multifaceted life. She attended Breckinridge Training School, graduated from Piketon (OH) High School, and attended Morehead State University, where she was a cheerleader. Evelyn was an exceptional artist, enjoyed communications and challenges brought by her computer, and adored spending time with her family and friends A celebration of her life was conducted 3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jack Ellis officiating. Interment was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Roger Russell, Bob Camuel, David Bolt, James Moore, Dale Brown, and Jack Carter.
