| About | Mary Kathryn Crabtree, 79, formerly of Waverly, Ohio and more recently of Mesa, Arizona, died at 11a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at Banner Hospice House in Mesa. She was the daughter of the late John William and Olive Opal (Cutler) Carthel. On September 12, 1942, she was united in marriage to Edison Harold Crabtree, who preceded her in death on February 26, 1976. Surviving are two sons, Edison "Jerry" Crabtree, of Gilbert, Arizona, and John Samuel (Pam) Crabtree, of Chillicothe, Ohio; three daughters, Connie L. (Johnny) Drummond, of Tonto Basin, Arizona, Rebecca J. (Roger) Drummond, of Mesa, and Christie A. Detillion, of Piketon, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a brother, John W. (Edith) Carthel, of Great Falls, Montana. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a grandson, Arthur R. Denny II, a sister, Christie Woodlan and her twin brother, James Carthel. Mary was a 1941 graduate of Piketon High School, a former 4-H advisor in the Zahn's Corner Community, a faithful donor to the American Red Cross Blood Bank, having given 13 gallons of blood, a charter and life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Merritt Post 142, having served as chaplain. Mary retired as a custodian from Ohio Valley Electric Corporation at Piketon in 1986. Mary was very strong in her Christian faith. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly, with Rev. David Stulley officiating. Interment will follow in Mound Cemetery, at Piketon, with a gathering for friends and family to follow at the Comfort Inn at Piketon.
