Master Sergeant, George E. Wallette, Retired USAF George E. Wallette, 62, of San Antonio, Texas, more recently of Valley View Drive, Waverly, died on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at the Veteran's Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born in Wilson, North Carolina on December 8, 1945 to the late Edward and Martha (Page) Wallette. At an early age, George moved, with his family, to the Loy's Run Road area of Pike County. He graduated in 1964 from Piketon High School. Immediately after graduation, George joined the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant before he retired in 1984. During his service, George served three tours of duty in Viet Nam and earned several commendations, including The Air Force Commendation Medal, First Oak Leaf Cluster, in 1980 and The Meritorious Service Medal in 1984. After retirement, George moved to San Antonio, where he worked as an airline mechanic. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #202, Michigan, member of the York Rite and Michigan Shrine. George was an avid reader of western novels, enjoyed woodworking, loved Texas and made airplanes fly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Motoe (Tamaki) Wallette. He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Wallette of Canada; his special nephew, William (Wayne) Wallette, of Waverly; his sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Jerry Bobst, of Beaver; his brother and sister-in-law, William (Bill) and Melody Wallette, of Waverly; and sister-in-law Dee Derenberger, of Waverly. Also surviving are his nieces Tammy (Bobst) Carnahan, of Springfield; Kelly (Bobst) Roese, of Circleville; and Michelle (Wallette) Tackett of Lucasville; and nephew Jason Wallette, of Waverly. Several great-nieces and great-nephews also survive him. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly with Jacquelyn Davis officiating. Masonic services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday by the Orient Lodge #321 F&AM, Waverly, Ohio. Military services conducted by the American Legion Merritt Post # 142, Waverly, Ohio. The family would like to thank the staff of the Hospice / Palliative Care Unit at the VA for their kindness and loving care they provided to make George comfortable.
