About | Paul Vernon Roberts, born the first of seven children of William Roy Roberts and Mary Louisa McElhany of Lucasville, Ohio. He passed away January 12, 2008 at the age of 91. Paul graduated from Piketon High School in 1934 and worked on his parent's farm before joining the Civilian Conservation Corp in October, 1936. He joined the Army in August, 1940 and served in the Pacific Theatre, where he was deployed to Borneo, the Philippines and Japan. He was honorably discharged in January, 1946 with the rank of Captain. He married Maude W. Lortie of Black River, NY at Camp Polk, LA, September 9, 1942 and made his home in Black River. He graduated from the Watertown School of Commerce in Watertown, NY. He is survived by his wife and two children; Gay Keogh of Croghan, NY and Timothy of Tucson, AZ, as well as five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four siblings. In December 1978, Paul retired after 22 years at the US Postal Service and moved to Tucson, AZ. Paul was a member of St. James Church, the VFW, Jacob's Jesters, Randolph Bridge Club and Udall Bridge Club. The memorial service will be at St. James United Methodist Church, 3255 N. Campbell Ave, Tucson, AZ 85719 at 200 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2008. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to the St. James Memorial Fund. Lortie of Black River on Sept. 9, 1942, at Camp Polk, La., and later graduated from Watertown School of Commerce. They lived at Black River and, after retiring, moved to Tucson. Mr. Roberts was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jacob's Jesters, Randolph Bridge Club and Udall Bridge Club, all in Arizona. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Gay Keogh, Croghan; a son, Timothy, Tucson; four siblings, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service was Jan. 17 at St. James United Methodist Church, Tucson. Arrangements were with Adair Funeral Home, Tucson. In place of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Memorial Fund.
