About | Pike County News-Watchman (Waverly, OH) - Wednesday, December 23, 2009 Richard Eugene Vallery, Sr., 79, of Seal Ave., Piketon, Ohio went home to be with the Lord at 10:05 p.m. Monday December 21, 2009 at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio after a long battle with cancer. He was born in March 28, 1930 in Pike County, Ohio, son of the late Edward A. Vallery and Nellie Mae Gee Vallery. On May 17, 1983, he was united in marriage to Cheryle Kay Stevison Vallery who survives. Also surviving are six children, Sheila Van de Bunte' of Los Angeles, California; Teresa Disney of Waverly, Ohio; Richard E. Vallery, Jr. and wife Pam of Piketon; Mary Mead and husband Josh of Piketon; Kevin Vallery of Knoxville, Tennessee; Katie Thomas and husband Eric of Piketon; 11 grandchildren; Shane Spencer, Amy Robertson, Heather Rhinesmith, Christy Nolan, Jennifer Hanson, Jason Vallery, Joshua Adams, Brian Sretenovic, Patrick Sretenovic, Zachary Sretenovic and Emily Mead, as well as 20 great grandchildren, several foster children and foster grandchildren and a brother, Peter J. Vallery and wife Evelyn of Clearfield, Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents, brothers, Virgil, Harry I., Don and Dean Vallery preceded Richard in death. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Army. Richard was a retired Electrical Mechanic for USEC, retiring in 1994 with 42 years of service. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, a former member of the Scioto Valley Board of Education and had attended many local churches. Richard enjoyed many interests, and will be remembered for his love for family, hobbies, his wonderful smile, his knack for story telling and great memory of the past. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the Howe Wheeler Boyer Hornback Funeral Home in Piketon with Paul F. Horn-back officiating. Military graveside services will observed with the American Legion Post 182 of Waverly. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery, Piketon.
