About | Richard Harvey Vance, age 88, of Westerville, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at his residence. Member of the Messiah United Methodist Church. Graduate of Piketon High School and son of the late Porter and Stella (Brigner) Vance. Preceded in death by his loving wife Harriet June, brothers Thornton Vance, Homer Vance and Paul Vance. Survived by son, Richard (Lana) Vance; daughters, Sherra (Walter) Layton, Linda (Bill) Friend and Debi Bays; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brother, Harvey Vance. A veteran board member and past president of the Central Ohio Retail Grocers Association, serving more than 20 years. Richard was owner/operator of Vance's Gateway Super Market, formerly known as Vance's Foodtown. The store started as Vance's Market in 1938. Richard and his wife June were also retired owners of Vance's Shooters Supplies, Inc., which opened in 1978. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2007, 11 a.m. at Church of the Messiah United Methodist, 51 North State Street, Westerville. A private family burial will follow. Family will receive friends at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville, Monday, February 19, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. With heartfelt gratitude, the family wishes to thank Mt.
