About | Robert Leon Penn, 81, of Piketon, Ohio, died Thursday February 10, 2011 at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice facility in Portsmouth, Ohio. He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Donna (Wheeling) Penn; his son, Robert G. Penn and his wife Lori; his daughter, Dee Ann Penn and her husband Dean Inboden; his brother, Benjamin I. Penn and his wife Thelma; his sister-in-law, Mabel Penn; his brother-in-law, Dale Newland; two granddaughters, Robyn (Penn) Roush of Chillicothe, and Jessany Penn, of Piketon; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Cyrus Penn; his mother, Anna Opal (Williams) Penn; his stepmother, Gracie (Williams) Penn; his brother, F. Dale Penn; his brother-in-law, Bill Green; his sister, Lillie Mae Newland; and an infant sister. Born on March 8, 1929 and raised in the Pike County area, he was a lifelong Christian and longtime member of the Church of Christ at Elm Grove, Piketon, and Canal congregation. His favorite activities included golfing, fishing, watching the Cincinnati Reds of TV, and tinkering on appliances and radios. At the rank of Torpedoman's Mate Third Class, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Haynsworth and the USS Hank. He was an active member for over 50 years in Orient Lodge 321, F & AM in Waverly, Ohio. He was also an active member of the Waverly Chapter No 99 Order of the Eastern Star. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday February 14, 2011 at the Howe Wheeler Boyer Hornback Funeral Home in Piketon with Darrell Pinkerton, Minister and Jason Ridgeway, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Hill Cemetery, Piketon, with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Merritt Post 142, Waverly and the Naval Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-6 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Monday. Orient Lodge 321, F & AM, will conduct a Masonic service at 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
