| About | Roger Dean Smith, 64, of South Charleston, Ohio, died Tuesday July 28, 2015 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born June 4, 1951 in Columbus to the late Chester Allen and Frances Goff Smith. On September 7, 1997, Roger was united in marriage to Brenda Sue Chain Smith who survives. Also surviving is a son, Nathan Smith and wife Mari Grace of Wheelersburg, Ohio; four daughters, Vanessa Smith of Hickory, North Carolina, Alicia Conrad and husband Ian of Savannah, Georgia, Christen Jenkins of Lynchburg, Ohio and Stacey Jenkins of London, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a brother, Allen Smith and wife Linda of Westerville, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hannah Kathryn Smith. Roger was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era, and Past Commander of the York Rite in Chillicothe, Ohio. In 1970 Roger was named All Conference Defensive Middle Guard, and the Most Valuable Player for the Piketon High School Football Team. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday August 4, 2015 at the Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly, with Darrell Pinkerton, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Goff Cemetery at Arkoe, Ohio with military rites conducted by American Legion Merritt Post 142, Waverly.
