Thomas “tom” Walter Henry Obituary

Graduation Year Class of 1965
Date of Passing May 05, 2016
About Thomas “Tom” Walter Henry, age 68, of Auerville Road, Bainbridge, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, May 5th, 2016 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born June 27, 1947 in Portsmouth, Ohio, son of the late Walter E. Henry and Roma Smith Henry Cutlip. On December 27, 1986 he was united in marriage to Tammy VanGundy Henry, who survives. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Betty VanGundy; nephews and nieces, Jeremy (Jami) Henry, Jennifer Henry, Jeremy (Jennifer) Satterfield, and Ryan (Chelsea) Satterfield; and several great nephews (Bo Henry, Nolan Henry, Max Henry, Tra Swayne, Tanner Perdue, Grant Satterfield, Luke Satterfield, Zayne Satterfield, Cade Satterfield, Hudson Satterfield, Archer Satterfield, and Reid Satterfield). Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Roger Lynn Henry, his step-father, Oliver Cutlip, and his father-in-law, Ancell VanGundy.
Tom was a retired Maintenance Mechanic with USEC, a farmer, and attended Morgantown Church of Christ in Christian Union. Tom greatly enjoyed life on the farm, working with cattle and horses. He and Tammy also enjoyed traveling, and they covered most of the continental United States in their journeys. Tom had an extremely generous heart, and would often give to anyone who came to him in need. He also loved his great-nephews very much, and they always brought a smile to his face.
Many also fondly remember Tom for his storytelling ability. Whether it was when he knocked himself out by running into a pole while escorting his date at Piketon's Homecoming game, or when he got knocked out (again!) by a swinging opossum to the head while on a hay ride, Tom was able to keep people in rapt attention while he spun his yarns.
Tom also enjoyed playing practical jokes on people. However, the instigator to one long-running family joke (on Tom!) was revealed at his graveside service. Those who were in attendance won't soon forget that moment.
Tom and Tammy were blessed with a wonderful final day together, as they were able to spend it in the company of one another.
Visitation was held on 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Saturday, May 7th,, at the Botkin-Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly. A graveside service was held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 8th, 2016 at Mound Cemetery in Piketon, Ohio, with Pastor Charles Elliott and Donnie Houser officiating.
