About Verlin K. Smith, 81, of Tennyson Road, Piketon, Ohio died Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Traditions at Bristol Village, Waverly, Ohio. He was born June 18, 1934 in Elm Grove, Ohio son of the late Ora Everett and Lina Lola Shanks Smith. On June 26, 1954, Verlin was united in marriage to Lillian West Smith who preceded him in death on May 23, 2012. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Amy Lisa and Denny Thomas Salisbury of Waverly; a grandson, Seth Thomas Salisbury and Seth’s fiancée Olivia Tunney of Frankfort, Ohio; a sister, Neisel Palmer of Groveport, Ohio; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Harold Alexander and Sandy Justice. In addition to his parents and wife, Verlin was preceded in death by three brothers, Troy, H. Richard and Gary Smith.

Verlin was a 1952 graduate of Piketon High School, a fifty year member of the Pike County Agriculture Society (Fair Board), a twenty-five year 4-H advisor and a fifty year member of the Orient Lodge 321 F & A M, Waverly. Verlin was a lifelong supporter of the Pike County Fair and 4-H programs. He was a member of the Pike County Democrat Party, and an avid hoe down square dancer. He was former attendance officer and transportation supervisor for the Pike County School System. Verlin retired with thirty years of service with the Piketon Post Office as a rural mail carrier.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Tim Hines officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery in Piketon. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. A masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday by Orient Lodge 321 F & A M.
