About | Donna J. Holbrook, age 72, of Marion, died Friday afternoon, March 27, 2009 at the Marion General Hospital Emergency Room. She was born on June 21, 1936 in Shirley, Illinois, the daughter of the late Charles M. and Julia A. (Runge) Carpenter. She graduated from Marion Pleasant High School in the Class of 1954. While working as a secretary at Smoot, Roush & Manter, CPAs, (now Holbrook & Manter, CPAs) she became fond of a young man named Roger D. Holbrook. They were married on June 1, 1958 and shared over 37 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on March 18, 1996. For 28 years, Donna was the owner and operator of Treasure Land Craft Center on Route 4 South, supplying her many customers with their crafting goods. Donna enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, and adding to her large collection of cookie jars and cutters. In addition, she also looked forward to her daily interaction with her many online crafting friends. Donna always approached life with a great sense of humor. She was a creative, artistic, and strong willed, independent woman. She was a lifetime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion. Donna will be dearly missed by her son, Douglas (Jane) Holbrook of Marion; two daughters: Jana (Jack) Von Dach of Newark, Linda Holbrook (Nancy Caron) of Bermuda Dunes, California; four grandchildren: Austin and Chad Von Dach, Samuel and Benjamin Holbrook; three sisters: Carol (Robert) Simpson of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Janet (Al) Rusbult of Marion, and Judy (Larry) Blevins of Prospect; Special friends Carol and Joe McWilliams; and many nieces and nephews. The Holbrook family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2009, at Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., the Reverand J. Weston Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.
