About | James Joseph "Joe" Shockey, age 86, passed away at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. Joe was born in Urbana, Ohio on September 13, 1925, son of the late Cecil and Vera (Henchen) Shockey. Joe graduated from high school in 1944, and enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Infantry in Europe where the earned the Bronze Star for heroic achievement. On February 26, 1946, Joe married Corinne Elizabeth Baker. He worked in the paper industry for most of his career and moved to Appleton, Wisconsin in 1982 to work for Fox River Papers. He retired in 1990. In July of 2011, he and Corinne relocated to King, Wisconsin. Joe loved spending time at his cottage on Murphy Lake, along with Corinne, the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife: Corinne Shockey of King, Wisconsin; a daughter: Beth (Dan Woll) Shockey – Woll of River Falls; sons: Mike (Penny) Shockey of Rowlett, Texas; Reed (Sue) Shockey of Raleigh, North Carolina; Joe (Cheryl) Shockey of Appleton, Wisconsin; and Andrew Shockey of Appleton. There are also thirteen beloved grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; a sister: Mary McGraw of Lancaster, Ohio; and a brother: Thomas (Betty) Shockey of Urbana, Ohio. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, a young daughter, Rebecca in 1961; two brothers: Fr. David Shockey and Robert Shockey; and a brother-in-law: Bob McGraw. |
