About | Obituary Larry E. Poe, age 73, of Sidney, died Saturday, July 15, 2023, at his home after a years-long battle with cancer. He was born in Urbana, OH, to Dorothy (Husted) and George E. Poe. He graduated from Urbana City Schools and attended Edison State Community College. Larry is survived by his wife: Judith (Love) Poe; his sister: Cathy Trowbridge of Urbana; his son: Kyle Scherer of Sidney; His daughter: Alisha (Ryan) Stimpson; many grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: John Richard Poe. Larry joined the US Air Force and served in the Vietnam War as a propeller repairman and engine mechanic. After his military service, Larry was employed by Hartzell Propeller of Piqua for forty years in quality control. He was a Tai Chi and Chi Gung instructor at Scherer’s Martial Arts Assoc. in Sidney. Larry was also a years-long volunteer, docent and tour guide at the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Fairborn. Although he was fun-loving, Larry was a man of intense personal integrity and was admired by many who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and giving. Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Pearl Cemetery in Sidney with Chaplain Randy Reed officiating. Full military honors will be provided by Shelby County Veterans and the US Air Forces. Arrangements are being handled by Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, Ohio. Per Larry’s wishes, there will be a graveside service only. In keeping with Larry’s sense of humor, Hawaiian shirts would be considered very appropriate.
