About | Douglas Brian Riley, age 43, died at his home in Farmersville, Ohio on Sunday, July 29, 2007 from complications of recurring brain tumors. Doug was born on October 26, 1963 in Dayton, the eldest of six children and lived in the Germantown - Farmersville area his entire life. He was a 1982 graduate of Valley View High School where he excelled in pole vaulting, track and basketball. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Clara Riley and his maternal grandparents, Herbert and Cletus Barton. On September 30, 1989, Doug married Karen Gisewite who survives him. He was the proud father of two daughters whom he adored, Logan Nicole and Mason Taylor Riley, both students at Valley View. Doug is survived by his parents, Bill and Jayne Riley of Germantown, and the following siblings: Debby (Brad) Holland of Myrtle Beach, SC and daughters, Spencer and Taryn; David Riley and daughters, Georgie, Madison and Jocianna; Danny (Angie) Riley and children, Christian, Chandler, Noelle and Noah; Dustin (Lisa) Riley and children Nicholas, Chance and Reese, all of Germantown and Dina (Mike) Gustin of Middletown and children Courtney, Kaleb, Kody and Kaylee, and one great nephew Caiden Conley. Father and mother in law Harry and Rowena Gisewite and their children, Rick (Linda) Gisewite and children Kayla and Colt; of West Alexandria, Randy Gisewite and Kelly (Greg) Moseley and daughter Sophia, all of Farmersville. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends. Doug earned All World, All-Sate and All-Cincinnati Metro awards during a very productive career in slow-pitch softball. In the 1980's and 90's, he played big time softball for such outstanding teams as VIP Transportation, Lovill Electric, Three-Star Mortgage, McGuffy's, Weber Farms and many more. He enjoyed a hall of fame career. He was known as one of the genuine good guys in softball circles. June 9, 2007, Doug was honored by the community with Doug Riley Appreciation Day. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 at Slifers Presbyterian Church in Farmersville. Burial at Holp Cemetery. The visitation was Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 4-8 p.m. at the Valley View High School. (There were over 3000 friends and family in attendance.) |
