About | Alice V. Moody, 96 years 7 months 27days.It is with a sad heart we report the passing of Alice Virginia Smith Moody at Cedar Hill Care Center Monday, April 28, 2014 just before 3:00 A.M. The family matriarch for many years is now in the arms of the Lord. I see a huge family reception in Heaven today by husband, grandparents, parents, brothers, granddaughter, nephew, aunts and uncles and many, many cousins. We will never ever forget you or our time with you, love forever. She was born on September 2, 1917 on China Street in Crooksville, Ohio to Bonnie (Williams) and Emmett J. Smith. Alice graduated from Lash High School and received her teaching degree from Muskingum College. She taught in a 1-room schoolhouse at Union Hill (Merriam Station) in the Philo District, then moved to Grant School in Zanesville teaching 3rd grade. Women teachers were not permitted to be married, so Alice taught only 4 years. She married Charles Baughman Moody February 15, 1941. Alice worked selling Tupperware--the "millionaire line". She has always loved arts and crafts. She worked with leather and ceramics; she began quilting before she was married. Alice quilted at the Center for Seniors and at the First United Methodist Church each week. She was a member at First Methodist Church her entire life. She belonged to the United Methodist Women and was an active part of her church family. She worked at the church fair stand for many years, taught Sunday School and Bible school. She was a member of the Couples Class and was active in all their projects including canning mincemeat and teaching the class. She worked with all the fundraisers and helped with worship and held many offices through the years. She enjoyed being a Cub Scout leader for her boys. She joined the Eastern Star Muskingum Chapter at age 18 and was a 75 year member, was a past matron and held many offices. She enjoyed working in the donut stand for many years. She was also a member of Amaranth and the White Shrine of Jerusalem; treasurer for the local Crop walk for many years, a life member of the Muskingum County Library and the Pioneer and Historical Society of Muskingum County, was also a member for many years of the Zanesville Civil War Roundtable, Oglebay Park and was a former member of the YWCA Board. She sponsored a scholarship for many years as Charles B. and Alice V. Moody Scholarship for Nursing and Medical degree at Zane State College. She began volunteering at Bethesda Hospital over 35 years ago turning on the televisions, working in the hospitality shop and ordering the greeting cards. Alice and Charles were charter members of the Zane Trail Kamp Club. Alice has traveled in every state of the U.S., Austria, Switzerland, Panama Canal, Mexico, Caribbean Island, and South America. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Baughman Moody; brothers, Richard and Dr. Donald Smith; granddaughter, Lisa Lynne Moody; daughter-in-law, Judith (Bradshaw)Moody; sister-in -law, Eleanor Smith; and a favorite cousin, Erma Williams Fisher. She is survived by sons: Donald C. Moody, David and Marilyn Moody, C. Douglas and Audrey Moody; grandchildren: Brian C. and Jamie Moody, Jennifer Moody, Christopher A. Moody, and Kelley J. and Mike Stephenson; great grandchildren: Steven J. and Karla Moody, Allie and Hannah Moody, Foster and Davey Stephenson, and Caleb Moody; one brother, Dr. Ralph and Diane Smith; and one sister in law, Jackie Smith. The burial will follow at Memorial Park. |
