About | Betty J. Stephens, 88, passed from this life on Sunday, July 10, 2011. Betty was born on May 23, 1923 to the late Maurice Corbelt and Hazel Tate Robinson in Zanesville, OH. She joined the Shiloh Baptist Church of Dayton, OH, in 1944 and has been a faithful member until her health began to fail. She was also a member of the Usher board for over 50 years & diligently worked in Vacation Bible School, Golden Agers and the Vina Beatty Mssionary Circle for numerous years. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard Stephens, Jr.; brother, Ed (Sonny) Corbett; grandson, Jeffery L. Shaw Sr.; & granddaughter, Gwendolyn M, Wills. Survived by her loving & devoted children: (4) daughters, Hazel M. Wills (Joe Jr.), Linda Shaw, Karen E. Long (Thomas Sr.) and Denise L. Stephens all of Dayton, 0H; (3) sons, Donald Sr. (Clara) of Dayton, OH, Gregory (Linda) of Pasadena, CA & Terry B. (Lee Ann) of St. Louis Parl, MN; (9) grandchildren, Stephanie R. Shaw-Hudson, Michael A. Shaw l Donald A. Stephens Jr., Thomas S. Long, Jr., Richard 0. Long, Eric R. Wills, Sr., Erica S. Owen, Moriah Stephens & Jeremiah Stephens; (4) sisters, Juanita (Sam) Mitchell, Shirley Corbett and Margaret McNary of Zanesville, OH and Cynthia Robinson of Atlanta, GA; (1) brother, Rev. James (Mary) McCord of College Park, MD; (2) sisters-in-law: Lula F. Wiliams and Betty E. Stephens; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends; special and devoted friends, Mrs. Barbara Galloway, Mrs. Rosie Williams, Mrs. Alpharetta Qualls, Mrs. Ruth Underwood, and Ms. Betty Richards and Mrs. Mabel Todd. Betty lived a long and fruitful life. Her strength came from her faith in God and her love for her family. She will be forever missed and never forgotten. Viewing will be held Friday July 15th, 2011 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 3801 Fairbanks Ave., Dayton, Ohio at 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Family will receive Friends 12-1 p.m. Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Final resting place: Dayton National Cemetery. |
