About | Betty J. Wiechert, 101, of Zanesville, Ohio passed into Glory Monday morning, February 22, 2021 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. Born October 19, 1919 in Newark, Ohio she was a daughter of the late Brice E. and Emma Grace (Cochran) Settles and was a 1937 graduate of Lash High School. She attended Meredith Business College for one semester than worked the front desk at Quality Furniture for a year. Then she began her career as a homemaker and mother. In 1967 Betty returned to college and in 1972 she graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught third and fifth grades a Maysville Local Schools for over 17 years before retiring. Betty was very active in the community and was a devout Christian. She was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church; the United Christian’s Women’s Club and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, the Retired Teachers Association; OWLS (Older Wiser Livelier Seniors); AAUW (American Association of University Women) and Forever Dads Prison Ministry, a mission she began at age 87 where she ministered to the incarcerated at the Noble County Correctional Facility. She was their “special Grandma”. Betty often attended the Muskingum Historical Society and was a patron of the local community theaters. Doing things with her family was another of Betty’s favorite things. She loved playing cards, playing Scrabble, fishing, cooking and baking, especially baking cookies, her specialty. Betty was a very happy, a very positive and a very loving and caring person. Her faith, her family, her home and her community were her treasures. And she was ours. We will miss her. Surviving are three sons, Henry “Ted” (Susan) Wiechert of Zanesville, Rudolph “Bud” (Gina) Wiechert, Jr. of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Gregory (Karen) Wiechert of Chardon, Ohio; three daughters, Judy (Bill) Wilson of Thornville, Ohio, Jeanine Busey of Zanesville and Kristie (Jeff) Howard of Zanesville; sixteen grandchildren; forty-six great grandchildren; forty-two great great grandchildren with three on the way. Also surviving are two sisters, Katherine (David) Chester of Warrenton, Oregon and Bess Ellen Fawcett of Columbus, Indiana; several nieces and nephews and many extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 62 years, Rudolph “Rudy” A. Wiechert whom she married May 1, 1938 and who died April 14, 2000; two grandchildren, Jeff Harter and Jeanie Harter Kuhn; two great grandchildren, James Hupp and Jack Stevens; one great great grandchild, Peyton White; a brother, Daniel Brice Settles; a brother in-law, Forrest Fawcett and her father in-law and mother in-law, Henry and Carrie (Price) Wiechert. Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Friday, February 26, 2021 at Coburn United Methodist Church, 3618 Maple Avenue, Zanesville. Calling hours will also be for two hours prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Coburn Untied Methodist Church with Pastor Justin Williams, Pastor Jeff Howard and Deacon Greg Wiechert officiating. Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband, Rudy, at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. |
