About | Charles K. Dusenberry, 86, of Zanesville, Ohio, died Sunday, January 23, 2011, from complications of pancreatic cancer. Born August 23, 1924, in North Cohasset, Massachusetts, he was raised in Zanesville, and remained there until moving to South Dakota in 2005 where he resided with his son and daughter-in-law. Charles was a graduate of Zanesville High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a Staff Sergeant for the 500th Bomb Squadron, serving in World War II from 1941-1945 in the Pacific Theatre. When he returned to Zanesville, he met and married Helen Hoosan on March 2, 1946. After marriage he attended Business College majoring in accounting. In 1950, he opened a Gulf Service Station on Maple Avenue in Zanesville, which he owned and operated until 1966. For the next twenty years he was the sales and service manager for the former Suburban Drilling Company of Zanesville, retiring in 1985. In retirement Charles enjoyed traveling with his wife, Helen throughout the United States visiting family and sightseeing. While residing in South Dakota, Charles enjoyed helping his son Michael in the art of horseshoeing. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Zanesville and was a member of the church choir. He was also a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus and was a member of Council 505 of Zanesville. Surviving are five children, Bethany Anne Dusenberry (husband James Lansing) of San Antonio, Texas, Michael J. (wife Barbara A.) of Whitewood, South Dakota, Patrick A. (friend Jeffrey A. Sweeney) of Pataskala, Ohio, Paul A. (friend Nancy Woods) of Zanesville, Ohio, Charles K. II (wife Beryl) of Fallbrook, California; and four grandchildren, Jon-Paul Marshall, Stephan Marshall, Alexandra Dusenberry and Arianna Dusenberry; and three nephews, Kurt, Kyan and Kent Kraus. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Helen M. (nee Hoosan) (2000); his son, Hugh J. (1977); two brothers and a sister. There will be a memorial service with burial in Mount Olive Cemetery, Zanesville, Ohio at a later date. |
