About | A memorial service, celebrating the life of Charles S. Bryant, 80, of Newark, Ohio, formerly of Lorain, Ohio, will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, 179 Granville Street, Newark, with Pastor Craig Burdick officiating. The Family wishes to reserve this service for family and close friends in the Newark/Zanesville area due to Covid-19 restrictions. A mask is required. A celebration of life gathering will be scheduled on a later date in Lorain, Ohio for the many friends and family members of Charles (Boomer) Bryant. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, October 24th, one hour prior to the memorial service, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Charles was born on September 12, 1940 in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Clay and Opal (Rarick) Bryant. He passed away on October 12, 2020 at Sharon Brooke Senior Living in Newark. Prior to retirement, Charles was a teacher and football coach, at Lorain Southview High School for over 30 years. He was a captain of the 1961 Ohio State University national championship football team and longtime member of the Varsity “O” Alumni Society at The Ohio State University. He was an avid golfer and softball player. He was a member of the Zanesville High School Hall of fame, the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame, the Lorain County basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, and was a member of the NEOA basketball official’s hall of Fame. Charles is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law, Charles “Scott” Bryant and Cevin S. and Angela Bryant; six grandchildren, Cameron, Collin, Kenadee, Clay, Kehler and Sean; and great one great granddaughter, Millie. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Karen Louise (Reid) Bryant originally from East Fultonham, Ohio.
