About | Charles W. Fineran, beloved son, brother and friend, went home to be with Lord and his mother in the early morning of Wednesday September 2, 2009. He passed away at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, surrounded by his family and best friends. The cause of death was complications resulting from liver failure. He was 39, living at the time in Butler, PA and formerly of Zanesville, OH. "Charlie" (as he was universally known) was born on November 17, 1969 in Zanesville, Ohio to Charles and Melva Fineran. Charlie was a 1988 graduate of Zanesville High School. He traveled the world and lived life to its fullest touching everyone he ever met. He was best known as an actor, artist, a beloved brother and friend. He had a long a storied history in Provincetown, MA dating back well over a decade, and though he had lived all over the country, always considered Provincetown his hometown by choice. Though multifaceted and endlessly talented, it was as a performer that Charlie was most recognizable. Charlie started theater at a very young age, and theater continued to be a part of his life throughout adulthood. As a young adult he was a member of the Mandalay Opera House and later The Gold Dust Orphans starring in shows in both Provincetown and Boston. His mix of deadpan humor and awkward vulnerability always created a complexity in his characters that inevitably, if not intentionally, gave many of the plays their gravity and their heart. It didn't matter whether the character was maniacal or tragic or naive he was always believable and reliably hysterical. His comic timing was the envy of all of his peers. He has also been in several movies as extras while living in New York City and Albuquerque, NM his most recent was a spot in the movie "Fan Boys". For his nieces he performed as the Tin Man in the "Wizard of Oz" in Butler, PA earlier this year. This summer in Provincetown he could be seen in two Theater productions and was also rehearsing a rigorous staging of Jean Genet's "The Maids" until his health prevented his continuing. A professional until the end, he performed in intense pain until the night before his final hospitalization, while even his closest friends were unaware of the severity of his condition. Charlie is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Melva J. Mathes. He is survived by his father, Charles F. Fineran of Zanesville Ohio; sister, Teressa Kilgore and brother-in-law, Randy Kilgore; his two nieces, Sara and Abigail Kilgore, of Butler, Pennsylvania along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins and extended step family. There will be a memorial service on October 11th at 10 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House of Provincetown, 236 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA 02657; all are invited and at 2 p.m. there will be a celebration in memory of Charlie located at the O'Hara House at 204 Bradford Street. There will be food, pictures and entertainment all in the memory of Charlie sharing the love we have for him. Come all and bring a memory of Charlie to share. On the 12th, Charlie's ashes will be lovingly interred in Provincetown. |
