About | Charlotte Maria Love, 95, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, March 11, 2013, at her residence in Emeritus at North Hills. She was born September 26, 1917, in Zanesville, the only child of William and Lydia Curtis. Charlotte graduated from Muskingum College in 1939 with a degree in music education and piano which began a love of music that infused her life and the lives of everyone who knew her. After graduation she taught music in the Zanesville City Schools, did substitute teaching, and directed the Girl Scout Glee Club. Charlotte’s life revolved around Central Trinity United Methodist church where she was a member for 85 years! She taught Sunday school and directed the Chancel Choir for almost 20 years and loved singing in the annual citywide production of The Messiah. She played key roles in the success and longevity of the Zanesville Concert Association and the Thursday Music Club. This involvement culminated with Charlotte’s performance at age 92 of a Chopin etude, by memory, before a full Secrest Auditorium audience at the Centennial Celebration of the Thursday Music Club. She taught piano students in her home for over 40 years until age 86. Her greatest joy was any student who stuck with music as a hobby or career. As soon as she was settled in at North Hills, she began entertaining her fellow residents by playing the piano and joining various musicians coming to entertain in sometimes comical duets. A highlight of her teen years came when Charlotte met Amelia Earhart when the famed aviator and her mechanic landed at Zanesville’s Wheeler Field in 1931. Charlotte’s father was sheriff of Muskingum County at the time, and was called to help them find aviation fuel. Charlotte was able to meet and be photographed with Ms. Earhart, but declined her offer of a flight in her autogiro. This story and photo were published in the January 2008 Smithsonian Air & Space Magazine. Married in June 1942, Charlotte and Charles celebrated 64 years of marriage together. Their extended family was their joy and they are survived by three children, Christina (Greg) Love Hodge of Rincon, GA, Sue Brummet of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Daniel (Rebecca) Love of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Norsworthy, Elizabeth Brummet, Liane (Greg) Brummet Jamason, and Benjamin, Abigail, Anna, and Christopher Love; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00pm Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Bryan and Snider Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Avenue and from 10:00 to 11:00am Monday, March 18, at Central Trinity United Methodist Church, 62 South Seventh Street where a service celebrating Charlotte’s life will immediately follow. Burial will conclude at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests donations to the Zanesville Concert Association, 2620 Douglas Dr., Zanesville, OH 43701. |
