About Clarence Edwin “Ed” Bowers, age 80, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Ed was born on December 16, 1943, to the late Clarence W. and Dorothy L. (Riley) Bowers in Zanesville, Ohio.

Ed started working for Gibson Ford in Zanesville in 1961 before serving in the Army Reserve from 1964 to 1970. After active duty he went to work for Walker & Battat Ford in 1965 in Heath, in the Parts department and then as the Parts Manager. He worked for Matthews Ford when they took over in 1992 as the Parts Manager then the Parts and Service Director. Ed oversaw the entire service side of Mathews Ford until his retirement in 2008 after which he continued to work there for an additional 3-4 years helping with warranties.

Ed was active in various clubs during his time working in the automotive field. He was involved in the Newark Lions Club, sat on the Board of Directors for Columbus State College and was involved with the Licking County Joint Vocational School. Ed served as a past president for the Central Ohio Parts & Service Club.

Ed enjoyed working in his yard and taking care of his fishpond. He loved to sit and watch the birds and squirrels in the back yard. He helped mow his mother-in-law’s yard for many years. Ed loved to take care of everyone else in his life.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sara A. (Kennel) Bowers, daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Michael Ashcraft; grandsons, Ryan Ashcraft and Logan (Keionna) Ashcraft; sister, Brenda (John) Krumlauf; brother, Brett Bowers; sisters-in-law, Sandra Rosenburger, Ginger Williams, Pam White, Sally Woodruff and Rebecca (Tim) Woodward; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughters, Kelly Sue Bowers and Baby Girl Bowers; son, Keith Edwin Bowers; sister, Sandra K. (Bowers) Wright; brothers, Ronald G. Bowers and Steven L. Bowers; In-laws, Edwin and Ruth Kennel; one sister-in-law, Trenda Ribble and five brothers-in-law.

Special Thank you to his sister-in-law, Rebecca Woodward for staying with the family the past three weeks to help care for Eddie.

A visitation will be held Friday, May 10, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. at The Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta- Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath, where services will follow that evening at 6 p.m. with Rev. Dr. John C. Minihan officiating. Burial will be on Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m. at Zanesville Memorial Park.
