About Daniel E. Duling, affectionately known as Danny Boy, PaPa and Du Baby, of Washington, District Of Columbia entered peaceful eternal rest on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. He was born September 13, 1941, in Zanesville, Ohio to the late David Daniel Simpson and Sue Ellen Hurt-Duling. Daniel was raised by his loving grandmother, Bernice Hurt.

Daniel attended Union Baptist Church in Zanesville from an early age. He graduated from Zanesville High School in 1959. While attending high school, he played on the football team. Daniel also loved to sing and travel with the Coleman Gospel Quartette. He moved to the District of Columbia (Washington D. C.) where he attended Howard University for two years, where he earned three different apprentice licenses. Daniel also dedicated 39 years of service to Howard University as an Engineer.

Danny Boy/PaPa was a Washington Redskins fanatic! He loved to watch Jimmy Swaggart. He also loved to visit his family and friends in Zanesville, Ohio. Danny Boy enjoyed watching his best friend Clarence “PeeWee” Jones coach the Atlanta Braves baseball team when they visited Baltimore, and most of all spending quality time with his family. PaPa especially loved spending quality time with his grandson/son Sean Daniel Duling.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all of Danny Boy/PaPa’s caretakers: House Call of Washington (Dr. Paul Rhodes), Javan Fox and Sean Duling.

Daniel is preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Duling and Ray Eugene Jones; and a step-brother, Bill Cromwell.

Daniel leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Ruth Fox-Duling; first union; two children, Danita Gaiters and Bradley (Karla) Duling; second union; two children, Mella Duling and Angela Duling-Butler; grandson/son, Sean (Shay) Duling; three bonus children, Haywood (Karen) Fox, Jr., Zanada Fox and Javan Fox; and extended family: Gaiters, Workman and Gwathmey.

Danny Boy was the second oldest of seven children: Katie Gillard-Clark, June Duling-Campbell, Chanele Grant and Stacy Grant. He cherished his loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Daniel also leaves to cherish his memory, a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and good neighbor/friend, Clarence Boles.

Following services in Washington, D.C., Mr. Duling will return to Zanesville, Ohio where additional services will be held Friday, November 12, 2021. You may call on the family Friday, November 12 from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m., with service to follow at 1 p.m., at Burrell Funeral Services. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
