About Delbert Mason Lothes. 84, departed for eternal life on September 27, 2018. Del was born on December 13, 1933 in Newark, Ohio. He graduated from Lash High School in Zanesville, Ohio and Muskingum University, earning a bachelor's degree in Business. Del married his middle school sweetheart, Sharon Williams and throughout their 62-year marriage, he and Sharon enjoyed traveling all over the world, attending Ohio State University football games, raising many beloved boxer dogs and entertaining family and friends. Together, they raised three wonderful sons, Chip, Eric and Peter. Del was a pioneer in the optical industry. After college, he worked for Carskadden Optical in Zanesville and then founded his own optical business, Del Opticians, with locations in Zanesville and Newark. In 1972, Del became the president of Select Optical and the Buckeye Optical retail chain in Columbus. A dynamic leader with a big heart, Del demanded and received the best out of people. He inspired his three sons to have careers in the optical industry. Del was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Worthington, All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church in Longboat Key, Florida, Dublin Worthington Rotary and Worthington Hills Country Club. He is preceded in death by parents Lester C. Lothes and Alma Virginia (Mason) Lothes, sister-in-law Jane Lothes and by his beloved wife Sharon. Del and Sharon are together again, and for that we are comforted. He is survived by his brothers William and Richard (Lois) Lothes, and by his sons, Chip (Cathy) Lothes, Eric (Julie) Lothes and Peter (Kris) Lothes. Grandchildren Jordan (Ashley) Lothes, Kristen (Alex) Mason, Natalie (Derek) Brown, Gretchen (Mark) Schuster, Mitchell (Kayla) Lothes and Sydney Lothes. Great grandchildren Hayden, Emerson, Nora and Graham. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caring staff at The Inn at Olentangy Trail for their exceptional care of Del. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Del's memory to Capital City Hospice, 2800 Corporate Exchange Drive, #170, Columbus, OH 43231. Family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 3:00pm on Saturday, October 6th at St. John's Episcopal Church in Worthington, Ohio with a memorial service to follow at 3:00pm.
