About Donald L. Cain, 87, of Zanesville, went home to Heaven at 5:28 a.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Genesis Hospital, Zanesville. He was born March 14, 1931, in Zanesville to the late Milford L. and Beulah Bell Cain. He was married to Bonnie J. Kirby on August 27, 1950 and worked for Carskadden Optical for twenty eight years and Midwest Optical for ten years. Donald was a member of Market Street Baptist Church since 1943 where he was the choir director for twenty years. He also served as President of the Zanesville Baptist Association, Pleasant Grove PTA and Zanesville High School Band Booster President, served sixteen years on the Zanesville School Board, President of the Southeast Ohio School Board Association, President of the Ohio School Board Association, Southeast Region Secretary for OSBA, member of the Muskingum Genealogy Society, Thursday Music Club, sang with the Civic Chorus and the Zanesville Chapter of Barbershop Harmony of America. He also attended the Tuesday Bridge Club at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors and was a volunteer at the Washington Township Fire Department.
He is survived by two sons, Kevin S. (Michele) Cain and Kirby S. Cain; two daughters, Susan E. (Robert Jr.) Stotts and Nancy E. Hynds; six grandchildren, Tabitha, Danielle (Micha), Joshua, Nathan (Amanda), Jacob and Patrick (Molly); and three sisters-in-law, Barbara Dunmead, Mary Lou Kirby, and Betty Holdcroft.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie J. Kirby Cain, who died July 8, 2006 and three brothers-in-law, Bob Holdcroft, Don Dunmead, and Jim Kirby.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Market Street Baptist Church Choir Fund, 140 North Sixth Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
Friends and family may call from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE and one hour prior to funeral services which will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 9, 2018, at Market Street Baptist Church, 140 North Sixth Street, Zanesville with Pastor Howard Thompson officiating. He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery, Sonora.
