About | Donald Lee Collins, 76, of Zanesville, passed away at 1 am Monday, October, 9, 2006, at Genesis Hospice, Morrison House, after an extended illness. He was born January, 30, 1930, in Zanesville, to the late Hillis Gale and Mabel Hutchins Collins. He graduated from Lash High School in 1947 and was a lifetime member of the SHA Alumni Association. Don was employed at Armco for 41 years and retired in 1991 as a state licensed stationary engineer. He served in the 3rd Armored division of the US Army, was a former financial secretary at First United Methodist Church and a former trustee at Faith United Methodist Church. He served on various boards and committees at both churches and was a former member of Zanesville Yacht Club. He as active in the West Muskingum Athletic Booster, serving as a treasurer and also managed the concession. He was a member of the Quarterback Club, the Land of Lakes Airstream Club, Country Campers Western Square Dance Club and Zanes & Janes Western Square Dance Club, where he held various offices. He enjoyed fishing, boating, western round dancing and was an avid golfer. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and attending all events involving his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jackie Spillman Collins of the home, whom he married May, 6, 1956; three children, Autumn Lee (Richard) Wilden, Scott (Mary Ann) Collins, and LouAnn (Michael) Maxwell; five grandchildren, Kelli JO and Karlie Collins, Tori Farmer, and Colt Maxwell of Zanesville, and Kyle Collins of Miami University; a brother, Robert (Emily) Collins; a sister, Jean Vandivier of Zanesville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors . |
