About | Donis Eugene Toler Sr., 72, of Zanesville, died at 11:15 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his family. Born July 4, 1936, to the late James and Florence Toler, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, father and grandfather to his family. He was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, and through the years had been recognized by numerous civic and community organizations. Donis retired from Zanesville City Schools after 40 years of service as a high school teacher. He coached football for 42 years until 2003. He continued to serve the students of Zanesville City Schools through the 2007-2008 school year as a substitute teacher since his retirement. Surviving are his children, one daughter, Kimberly R. Toler of Blacklick, Ohio; three sons, Donis E. Toler Jr. (Stephanie) of Galena, Ohio, James B. Toler of the home, and Jason N. Toler of Coshocton; two sisters, Barbara Toler Dalton of Zanesville, and Dr. Brenda Kay Toler of Columbus; a very special nephew, Chad A. (Shelly) Dalton of Reynoldsburg; two grandsons, Stefan D. Toler and Shane M. Toler; one granddaughter, Jerica Dunbar; his fiancé, Gloria Barnett Portis of Belpre, Ohio; one great-niece, Tiesha Dalton; and many special cousins and wonderful friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Florence Toler; and his daughter, Stephanie A. Toler. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at the Zanesville High School Winland Gymnasium, 1301 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 561 Pine St., with the Rev. Clifton Kilpatrick officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
