About Dorothy Jean Swingle, 86
Dorothy Jean Swingle, 86, of Zanesville, passed away at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2008, with family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Luther and Grace Painter and was born in Davenport, Iowa, on July 11, 1921. She graduated from Zanesville High School and attended Bridgewater State Teachers College, Boston University of Music, Ohio University, and Meredith Business College in Zanesville. During World War II she served 19 months with the Women�s Army Corps in the Finance Department. From 1967 � 1978 Jean was Secretary at Grover Cleveland Junior High School, Zanesville. She was a member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church, in Stovertown, where she served as organist for many years, and was actively involved in the Lutheran Church Women. She was also a member of the Philo/Duncan Falls Lioness and Farm Bureau and volunteered at Bethesda hospital and with the Salvation Army. She was preceded in death by her husband Bennett Swingle, who passed away March 12, 1998, and a daughter Elizabeth Grace as well as three sisters Patty, Eleanor, Francis, and one brother Ray. She is survived by her sons Jeffrey (Karen) Showers and Vince (Linda) Showers, and daughters Leslie (Gary) Williams and Susan Showers. Also surviving are stepsons David (Sue) Swingle, Al (Nancy) Swingle, James (Gail) Swingle and John (Teri) Swingle, and stepdaughters Ruth (John) Fabian and Joanne (Paul) Miller and a brother Howard Painter. She was blessed with 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grand children. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Tuesday February 5^th 2008 at the Thompson-Farus Funeral Home, Duncan Falls, and one hour preceding the funeral service. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 6^th 2008 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Stovertown with Rev. Catrina Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Stovertown Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Jean�s name to the St. Johns Lutheran Church, Stovertown.
