About | DRESDEN - Dorothy L. Prouty, 93, of Zanesville, Ohio died Sunday morning, January 21, 2018 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. Born February 20, 1924 in Zanesville, she was a daughter of the late Dwight E. and Florence (Offenbacher) Smith and was a 1942 graduate of Lash High School. Mrs. Prouty retired in 1986 from the Equitable Life Insurance Company where she had worked since 1942. She served the company in many different capacities, and worked in the home office in Washington, DC as a field clerical supervisor and an auditor for several years. Dorothy was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church of Zanesville and the local Bridge Club for over 60 years. She was a charter member of the National Secretary Association and a former member of the National Insurance Women of Zanesville. Surviving is her loving husband of 60 years, Vernon L. Prouty, whom she married April 7, 1957; one brother, Paul E. (Matalee) Smith of Alexandria, Louisiana; two nieces, Kathy (Cameron) Collins of Texas and Carol (Christopher) Oman of California and a great nephew, Austin Collins of Texas. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a great nephew, Andrew Collins. Calling hours will be 4pm to 7pm Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street. Funeral services will be 11:00am Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the funeral home with the Rev. Joy Wigal officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery. |
