About | GALION: Edith E. Sheffer, 94, of Galion, died Saturday morning, January 19, 2013 at Magnolia Terrace in Galion. Born November 24, 1918 in Zanesville, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Stella (Shook) Benadum. She was preceded in death on October 8, 2006 by her husband of 67 years, Irvin H. Sheffer, whom she married July 29, 1939. Edith graduated from Zanesville High School and Meredith Business College in Zanesville. She was a member of First United Church of Christ in Galion and its Bethany Circle. Always enjoying flower and vegetable gardening she especially liked sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends, taking care of her family and cooking. Edith received the U.S. Navy "E" pin for her work on the war's number two secret weapon, the VT Fuze, at the Hoover Company in Zanesville, during World War II. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, William and Darlene Sheffer of Mansfield; her daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Doug Schreck of Crestline; a grandson, Erik Schreck and his wife, Nicole of Cincinnati; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Schreck; one sister, Barbara Sidwell of Zanesville; and a brother-in-law, Ray Hiebel of Pickerington. In addition to her husband and parents, Edith was also preceded by a granddaughter, Kellie Schreck; one brother, Richard Benadum; and two sisters, Jean Hiebel and Leona Boggs. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2013 at Zanesville Memorial Park with Pastor Brad Smith officiating where Edith will be laid to rest next to her husband. Private visitation is being held for her family. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion.
