About Dr. Edward Joseph Booth, age 72 of Zanesville, died at 4:00 a.m. on Tue. Aug. 11, 2015 surrounded by his family at The Oaks at Bethesda. He was born June 2, 1943 to the late Edmond Jasper & Edna Iona (Hothem) Booth.

Dr. Joe Booth is survived by his wife of 45 years Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Troyan. He is also survived by a son Darin (Julia) Booth of Huntersville, NC; four daughters Kristen Booth of New York, NY; Dr. Anne (Aaron) Clark of Upper Sandusky; Elizabeth (Brent) Moffitt of Dublin; Jamie (Dan) Szapka of Warwick NY; eight grandchildren, three brothers Dr. James (Pam) Booth of Gratiot; Dr. Jack (Sandy) Booth of Nashport; and Jon (Marcie) Booth of Zanesville.

Joe graduated from Zanesville High School as the 1961 Class President, a member of National Honor Society and a varsity letter winner in football, wrestling and track. Joe then earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with high academic honors in 1965 from Otterbein College. While pursuing his undergraduate degree he was a member of Zeta Phi Fraternity and also played football, ran track, and was an accomplished wrestler. He continued on to The Ohio State University Medical School, specializing in Urology, following in his father’s footsteps. He completed his residency at Cincinnati General Hospital before returning to Zanesville in 1974.

In Zanesville Joe was a Certified Board Physician specializing in Urology. During his residency in Cincinnati and the first years in his hometown he was part of the Air Force Reserves for six years serving as flight surgeon. He was President of the Muskingum County Medical Academy as well as the Medical Chief of Good Samaritan and Bethesda. He later served as the Muskingum County Coroner for three years.

Joe was the co-founder and first President of the Zanesville Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and continued volunteering in this chapter for 25 years. Actively involved in the community, he was coach of Y-City Baseball Biddy League and for six years was the team physician for the ZHS cross country and track teams. He was an avid runner and completed several 26.2 mile marathons. A true outdoorsman, Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking and was the owner of thoroughbreds for harness horse racing.

Joe’s passion for his career, life, wife and children make him the type of man who stands apart, yet doing so in quiet repose.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30AM Sat. Aug. 15, 2015 in the Snouffer Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM Fri Aug 14, 2015 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE, OH.
