| About | Edwin Lewis (Louie) Rice, 78, a life-long resident of Zanesville, died January 14, 2012, at 7:15 p.m., at Good Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Zanesville, January 31,1933 to Edwin Richard Rice and Estella Louise McBride Rice, the first of two sons. Louie graduated Zanesville High School in 1951, then served in the Navy on the USS Cascade between 1951 and 1953. After his service, he returned home to Zanesville and worked for many years at General Electric where he retired as an inventory control manager in 1990. Louie was Mr. Fix-it. He was a fanatic about his lawn, he loved the outdoors and camping, and he passed his passion for golf onto his grandchildren. He was an officer and life member of the VFW Post 1058 and member ofthe American Legion 29. He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Ralph Deutsch; and his brother, Richard; and stepson, Mark Kirkbride; and brothers-in law, Robert, Phillip and Louis Newland' and his in-laws, John and Inell Newland. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Shirley Newland Kirkbride Rice; his son, Kevin Randall Rice (Loretta Williams); daughter, Kelly Rene Rice (Bruce) Neal; stepson, Mike (Jill) Kirkbride; daughter in-law, Debbie Kirkbride; and grandchildren, Cory Neal, Megan Neal, Jamie Kirkbride (Shannon Christie), Senior Airman Melissa Kirkbride (USAF), Dalton Kirkbride and Logan Kirkbride; step-grandchildren, Heather Mckahan, Brooke McKahan, Shannon Coblentz; and great grandchildren, Devon Mullis, Makailyn Kirkbride; sister-in law, Shelba Rice; and many other family members. Burial will be at Duncan Falls Cemetery. |
