| About | Elsie Zehrung Dickert died Friday, August 1, 1986. She was born September 8, 1895, in Roseville, a daughter of Samuel P. and Elizabeth Kelch Zehrung. She was a graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in music and a graduate of The Ohio State University with a master's degree in social services. She taught music in local schools and in the Dayton school system for a number of years. Mrs. Dickert retired from the Department of Interior in 1962, having worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Montana, Nevada, Wyoming and Alaska. She was head of the Student International House of Quakers in Washington. D.C. and worked for the American Red Cross during World War II. She worked for the Quakers in Israel with both Arab and Jewish people. Mrs. Dickert was head of the Welfare Department in Northwest Ohio for a number of years. She was a member of Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church, Zanesville, and the Martha Washington Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Roseville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Dickert. Surviving are a brother, Samuel Zehrung of Dayton and four nieces, two nephews and several cousins. Burial will be in Roseville Cemetery. |
