About | Ernest J. Hannahs, 96 of Zanesville died at 5:12 PM Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the Oaks at Northpointe. He was born on Saturday, February 18, 1922 in Noble County the son of Rufus R. and Lida Brownfield Hannahs. The family moved to Zanesville in 1930. E.J. graduated from Lash High School in 1939 and Ohio University in 1943 with a degree in accounting. He was in the US Army for 3 years and Ernie married Marjorie Phillips at his childhood home on June 14th 1947. They were married for 66 years. He worked for Western & Southern Insurance Company as an Insurance agent and retired as an accountant at Newark Air Force Station. He was a lifelong member of the Woodlawn Church of Christ. As a child he had a love of sports, especially baseball, however he also played basketball, golf and tennis. One of his best chums was his neighbor, Fred Taylor. He excelled in Bowling & coached his sons to bowl. They were a fixture at Military Lanes & Sunrise bowl. He was inducted in the Zanesville Bowling Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2014 and his son Jimmy in 1955. He is survived by two sons: Gary Hannahs and Ted Hannahs and a daughter, Barbara Gifford; a sister Kathleen; his grandchildren, Steve & Tom Hannahs, Reid Gifford, and Megan Daniel, Jacob & Justin Hannahs; and 5 great grandchildren. Friends may call 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM on Friday June 15th at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home where funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM. Burial with Military Honors will conclude at the Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Military Rd. |
