Graduation Year Class of 1942
Date of Passing Mar 26, 2015
About Evelyn Scott Krofft , 90, of Zanesville, passed away on Wednesday March 25, 2015 at Cedar Hill Care Center.
She was born July 21, 1924 in Zanesville, Ohio. She graduated from Lash High School in 1942 and was hired at American Rolling Mill (AK Steel), working there for seven years, at which time she was required to leave due to company policy that stated females could no longer work there after they were married.
Although she and Herbert Krofft had met in High School, they did not date until after he returned from World War II. They were married at Central Methodist Church on June 27, 1948. Herb worked at Bintz Department Store and became noted as a window display organizer, and soon was responsible for the displays in many of the store windows on Main Street. After their marriage, Herb and Evelyn began their business, Herb Krofft Displays (HKD). After Herb’s retirement, Evelyn became President of the Company until her retirement in 1989. Evelyn was an active member of her church, serving in numerous capacities including pianist and a member of the Sunday School Orchestra, and as Church Historian for many years. She was noted for her creative abilities such as her short stories and her hand-made note cards.
Evelyn is survived by her granddaughter Jennifer (Sam) Durfee and two great-granddaughters, Raegan and Grace Durfee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Herb, their daughter Sue Vandenbark, and her brother Robert (Bob) Scott.
Visitation will be 11:00 AM till time of service at 1:00 PM Tuesday March 31, 2015 at Central Trinity United Methodist Church. Committal services will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
