About | Francis E. "Pat" Hillis, 88 of Thornville, formerly of Zanesville passed away at 10:10 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Heartland of Fairfield Nursing Center, in Pleasantville, Ohio. He was born in Perry County, Ohio on June 8, 1923 the son of the late Henry Hillis and Laverna Cox Hillis. Mr. Hillis was an avid golfer, graduate of Zanesville High School, 1942; He was a scratch golfer and played on the varsity basketball team at ZHS with the legendary OSU coach Fred Taylor; he proudly served in the 420th Army Air Force, former Chief of Pressure Piping for the state of Ohio. He retired in 1985 from the United Association of Plumbing and Pipefitters Union Local 189 of Columbus and he once served as Business Manager of Local 148 of Zanesville. A member of Perry County Farm Bureau. US Golf Association member since 1987. He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Zanesville, and a member of the Masons Honor Lodge 726, Amrou Grotto, Elks Lodge 114, and the American Legion Post 29. He was also a licensed Cosmetologist. He is survived by his children; Bobbie Hummel of Thornville and Robert aka Robin (Beth) Gray of Columbus; grandchildren, Mike (Jill) Wiles of Millersport, Sue Ann (Tom) Huneck of Columbus, Edward (Sonya) Chaffin of Lancaster, Brian Chaffin of Newark, and Kevin (Mary) Chaffin of Cumberland, Jason Gray of Springfield, John (Linda) Gray of San Francisco and Eric (Ileana) Gray of Springfield; great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, a sister Virginia Campbell of Zanesville and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Pat is preceded in death by his first wife Norma Jean Barnett Hillis his second wife Bonita "Bonnie" Arter; daughter Shelly Wiles, sisters, Audrey Morris, Verlan Butterini and Thelma Livezey; brothers, Hugh, Charles, Walter and John Hillis. Pat will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park. |
