About Tallahassee, FL - Franklin "Frank" Bernard Brown passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Jo Ellen Brown, children Alicia (Jonathan) Batailles and Adam James Brown, sister, Widney Brown, and grandson, Franklin "Frankie" Michael Batailles.

Frank was born on February 13, 1955, in Zanesville, Ohio, the son of James William Brown and Alice Rolls Brown. Frank graduated second in his class from Zanesville High School in Zanesville, OH. He then went to Muskingum College in New Concord, OH, earning his bachelor's degree in Chemistry. He earned his PhD in Theoretical Physical Chemistry from the Ohio State University. He went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN and then moved to Tallahassee, FL to take a position in the Chemistry Department at Florida State University as an Assistant Professor in 1985.

In 1989, Frank began his career as a professor at Tallahassee Community College (TCC). He became Dean of the Science and Math Division in 2000 and stepped down to resume teaching in 2013. He continued to teach until 2018. Frank loved teaching which was evident by the total dedication he had to helping his students learn chemistry. He taught all of his classes at TCC and church with a great sense of humor. Throughout his adult life, Frank was an active member of Saint Paul's United Methodist Church, serving on various committees and teaching Sunday school classes. Frank enjoyed reading, working on carpentry projects around the house, fishing, and cooking for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James William Brown and Alice Rolls Brown and his brother James "Jimmy" W. Brown Jr.

A memorial service will be held on August 23 at 11:00 AM at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice or to the Tallahassee Community College Foundation for the Dr. Frank Brown Memorial Chemistry Scholarship.
