About Gary A. Chandler Sr., 71, of Zanesville, passed away on July 2, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Born in Lowell, Ohio on March 16, 1941 to the late Walter and Volorus (Dalton) Chandler. He was a 1960 graduate of Zanesville High School and served four years in the United States Air Force. During a then Vice President Cheney visit to Zanesville, he was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Secret Service. He worked for 27 years at Cooper Industries as a machinist, and retired from his Head Groundskeeper position at Hallowed Hills Campground. He was a member of Apostolic Christian Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Retha; two daughters, Retha Dawn Crump and Julie Chandler; two sons, Andre and Gary Jr. all of Zanesville; eight grandchildren, Brandon and Kyle Crump, Austin, Alexandria, Jade and Jenna Johnson, Lainey, Andre Armante Chandler; and four greatgrandchildren; five sisters, Naomi Scipio, Yvonne Campbell, Loretta (Ralph) Franklin, Jeanne (Larry) Mayle and Vicki Chandler; two brothers, David (Frances) Chandler and Gayland (Hairstean) Chandler; and sister-in-law, Frances (Darrell) Chandler; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; with two special sons, John Michael Jackson and Stephen Charles Johnson.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Darrell "Pete" Chandler; an infant sister; and grandson, Baby Dre' Chandler.
