About | CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - George K. Crawford, 59, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and a longtime resident of Zanesville, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of May 8, 2008, at Chattanooga Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1948, in Zanesville, the son of the late George W. "Chick" Crawford and Mary Lee Rodewald Crawford, and was a graduate of Zanesville High School. George spent many years in Zanesville and made his mark as an accomplished and inventive lead guitarist and bassist in many local musical groups from the late 1960s through the 1980s. He is considered by many to have been a world-class talent. He was also considered a gifted humorist whose wit and charm will be missed by the scores of fellow musicians and others who knew him as a loyal friend and colleague. For the last few decades, he had lived and performed on the Carolina coast and in Florida. He is survived by his beloved son, Matthew Crawford of Ocala, Fla.; and Matt's mother, Judy Wilson of Blue Rock. George was preceded in death by his parents. No formal services were held, although a memorial tribute is planned by his fellow musicians and friends in the Zanesville area at a time yet to be announced. At George's request, his ashes were brought to Zanesville by his son, Matt. George was a one of a kind individual and cannot be replaced in the hearts of his friends and family. |
