| About | Rock Hill - Gloria LaVonne Cary Dice succumbed to complications of Alzheimer's on October 9, 2019 in Rock Hill SC. Born July 17, 1925 in Detroit MI, she was raised in Zanesville OH to which the Cary family moved from Virginia in the 1840s. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University and graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC where she became lifelong friends with actor/comedian Tom Poston. Gloria performed in Off-Broadway and summer stock theater before returning to Zanesville due to her father's health where she met and married G. Ronald Dice. She would often say "I was born a red head and I'm going to die a red head". And so she did. In Zanesville, Gloria was active in Beaux Arts and the Author's Club, enjoyed playing tennis at the Zanesville Country Club, and was a member of The Fashion Group after moving to Muirfield Village in Dublin OH later in life. She was an avid life-long reader. Gloria is survived by her son George Cary (Cristie) Dice of Charlotte NC and her grandchildren Julia Cary Dice of Alexandria VA, Anna Catharine Dice of Honolulu HI, and George Christian (Leslie) Dice of Charlottesville VA; and by her son Ronald Adams (Marcia) Dice of Potomac Falls VA and her grandchildren Avery Michelle Dice of Lancaster PA and Laina Katherine Dice of Potomac Falls. She is also survived by her beloved sister Shirley Dunzweiler of Tulsa OK who is 98 years young. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband George Ronald Dice, and her parents George W. and Katherine Simion Cary. Her cremated remains will be interred with her husband's in the Cary family plot in Greenwood Cemetery in Zanesville. |
